Back in 2021, we were introduced to a UK-based company called Nothing. And no, this is not a joke, the company actually is called Nothing. What’s amazing about the company is that it was started by Carl Pei, the co-founder of OnePlus, which is another giant in the smartphone industry.
The first product created by the company was earbuds called the EAR (1). You can probably tell they are very creative in naming their products. Sarcasm aside, when these earbuds were a huge success, they finally stepped into the smartphone game as well and the rest is history.
The first smartphone was called Nothing Phone (1), launched in July of 2022, which boasted record-breaking sales within just 3 hours! Then came Phone (2), Phone (2a) and finally Phone (2a) Plus which are quite superior in terms of performance and capability than its predecessor.
Coming back to the topic at hand, in this article, we have highlighted specifications of the Nothing Phone 2(a) Plus, and whether it is worth getting or not. So, let’s get into it:
The Huge Battery
The first thing that caught my attention was the huge battery that the phone was packing. The phone comes with a 5000mAh battery, which should last at least a day and a half if you optimize your phone usage. Usually, phones offer you a battery with 4000mAh to 4500mAh battery capacity, so this naturally gives the Nothing Phone 2(a) Plus an edge.
A great battery also comes in handy when you are traveling, since it is very rare to find spots to charge your phone. So if a great battery is what you need, then you should definitely have this phone on your list to consider buying!
An Affordable Price Point
If there’s one thing about this phone that had me nearly sold, it was the price point. It hangs in perfect balance between the Nothing Phone 2 (too expensive for me) priced at $699 and the Nothing Phone 2a priced at $399 (which just doesn’t sit right with me). The Nothing Phone 2a Plus is priced perfectly at $399!
If your budget isn’t enough for the Nothing Phone 2, you can get the 2a Plus instead! It has decent specs at a much more affordable price. So if there’s another thing where the 2a Plus takes the cake, it is the price!
A Stellar Display
I believe that a phone is only as good as the display it gives you. Probably because subconsciously the first thing you notice about a phone is its display. Lucky for all Nothing Phone fans, the 2a Plus has a stellar display too!
The phone comes with an AMOLED display which gives you 1B colors! So whenever you watch a video on your phone, you can delve into the crisp details. Not just that, the phone also has a 120Hz refresh rate, which makes movement and transitions in your phone as smooth as butter!
The brightness of the screen can go up to 1300 nits, making it a delight to use in sunny conditions.
Not only that but the phone is also a great option to stream and movies on. The display helps in making the experience as immersive as possible. However, to make the most out of the streaming quality, make sure that you connect your phone to a reliable internet service so that you don’t end up watching a show or movie that’s pixelated.
I recommend using Xfinity internet for that matter, you can reach out to Xfinity customer service to find out more about internet plans, speeds, and anything else that you wish to find out.
An Interesting Design
Now for that one thing that really makes this version of Nothing smartphone stand out is its brilliant phone design. It has a transparent body, making it nearly possible to see the mechanism inside your phone. It is so minimalistic yet engaging, making it eye-catching.
However, it’s always the LED strip lights that get your attention. The phone has three bright LED strips at the back so that anyone looking at the phone knows that it is a Nothing Phone. These lights also flash whenever you have a notification and they also help with the camera in poor lighting conditions!
Great Performance
This list would have been incomplete without the mention of the phone’s performance. The phone comes with the latest Android 14 (we’re not counting the Android 15 since it is only available on Google Pixels phones for now). It is expected that the Nothing 2a Plus will also get three major updates.
However, if there’s one thing that I didn’t like about the phone, it’s the chipset. The phone comes with a MediaTek chip instead of a Snapdragon chip. If they had used a Snapdragon chip instead, the phone would have been lightyears ahead!
However, the phone comes with an Octa-core CPU, which definitely gives you an edge in its performance and speed. If you get the 256GB variant of the phone, you get 12GB of RAM which ensures that your phone won’t lag as you use it.
A Fantastic Camera
When getting a new phone for myself, I always pay attention to the camera, because I always love having a phone that is known for its camera. The Nothing 2a Plus comes with a Dual 50MP camera with one being f/1.9 for portraits and the other one at f/2.2 for landscape images.
One of the lenses is wide at 24mm focal length and the other one is ultrawide at 114” for group pictures. Now for the selfie camera, which is a 32MP wide camera set at f/2.2. While the rear cameras can record a video in 4K resolution, the front camera records in 1080p. So all in all, this phone has some pretty decent cameras to offer!
The Final Verdict
Provided that the phone gives you an amazing design, ample storage space, stellar cameras, and amazing performance, it will only make sense for you to get the phone for yourself. The best part is, the phone has a very affordable price tag too! Now all we have to do is wait for the phone to be released!
